Flowing Into My Journey: How Hooping Found Me

Flowing Into My Journey: How Hooping Found Me

Welcome to my vibrant world of flow arts! 🎉 It’s amazing how life has a way of nudging us toward our passions, and for me, that journey began about 15 years ago with a simple hoop. I was athletic, confident, and ready for new challenges, but little did I know, hooping would be the most rewarding and transformative experience of my life.

The Challenge of Hooping:

I vividly remember watching someone effortlessly lift off with their hoop, and I was captivated. I wanted that! However, unlike other athletic pursuits, hooping didn’t come naturally to me. It became a personal challenge to master waist hooping and achieve that elusive lift-off. Back then, information about hooping was scarce. I had to rely on my creativity and determination, learning as I went along, and sharing my newfound skills with friends.

Discovering the Art of Hooping:

As I delved deeper into hooping, I quickly learned that hoop size matters! The internet suggested choosing a hoop that reached your belly button, but I soon realized that everyone’s body is unique, and a larger hoop suited my style better. There was so much to learn about technique, grip tape, and the nuances of movement. In my adult classes, I joke that “what they say is most important is the motion of the ocean, but really, size matters too!” It’s all about finding the right fit for your body and embracing the journey.

Creating My Safe Space:

During this time, I was unaware of the emotional impact hooping was having on me. I found a sense of safety and creativity within my hoop—a bubble where I could express myself freely. It became my sanctuary, especially during a challenging period in my life. While I faced an unsupportive relationship, hooping was a constant reminder of my strength and ability to find joy amidst adversity.

Adventures and Community:

Thanks to collapsible infinity hoops, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to hoop in beautiful locations like Illinois, Colorado, Oregon, and Alaska. I even hiked to the tops of mountains just to spin my hoop in nature! After taking my first hoop classes in Oregon, I realized I wanted to share this joy with others. I began teaching in Pennsylvania, starting with a donation-based intro class, helping students create their own hoops, and guiding them on their hooping journey.

Building a Flow Community:

Over the years, I earned my Hooplove Coach certification and have taught numerous classes and workshops. I’m passionate about creating a sense of community through flow arts, and I’m excited to expand my offerings with online classes and instructional videos. Last year, I organized my first flow/holistic healing festival—Vibe Flow Festival—which brought together like-minded individuals to celebrate the power of movement and healing.

Conclusion:

Hooping has been more than just a hobby for me; it’s a gateway to self-discovery and connection. When I flow, my mind expands, allowing new ideas to flourish, and I release what no longer serves me. I can’t wait to share more about this beautiful journey with you! Stay tuned for more insights, tips, and inspiration from the world of flow arts.
